Among archaeologists today, Leithaprodersdorf is associated with an Early Bronze Age culture, which has taken its name from a cemetery in this small North Burgenland community. Yet Leithaprodersdorf has many more historic riches on offer, as this new brochure from the Federal Department of Monuments shows impressively. Wide-ranging archaeological excavations by the Federal Department of Monuments in recent years have revealed not only further graves from the Early Bronze Age, but also Celtic burials with costly grave goods, Roman gravestones and the remains of a lavishly-decorated Roman villa. At the heart of the publication, however, is the largest surviving archaeological monument in the community, the medieval moated castle „Gschlössl“: The restructuring of this protected site prompted this summary of the latest research results into the history of Leithaprodersdorf.
