Dictydiaethalium is a genus of myxomycetes with several features that pose interesting taxonomic questions, such as the similarities among species and the problem of few collection records. During a sensu lato mycological expedition to a Brazilian savanna area, sporocarps of a new species were collected. Herein we describe it as Dictydiaethalium diminutum, based on genetic data from the 18S rRNA and mtSSU regions, as well as morphological comparisons with other species of the genus.
Keywords: 18S, mtSSU, myxomycetes, Neotropics, taxonomy, new species.
