The Pranburi River coastline extends southeast through Prachuap Khiri Khan to the Gulf of Thailand. Our study resulted in the collection of Lundqvistomyces verrucosus, isolated from submerged decaying stems of mangrove-associated plants along the Pranburi River. Morphological studies, particularly in ascospore shape, size, ornamentation and ascomata features, in conjunction with multigene phylogenetic analyses (LSU–ITS–rpb2), established our collection as a new taxon. Lundqvistomyces verrucosus has longer and verrucose ascospores compared to its closest relatives L. karachiensis and L. tanzaniensis. Additionally, the lower cells of Lundqvistomyces verrucosus are rounded, while those of L. tanzaniensis are triangular. The ascomata of Lundqvistomyces verrucosus have flexuous hairs, while L. karaciensis and L. tanzaniensis are glabrous. Notably, this is the first report of the genus from mangrove ecosystems, highlighting its broader ecological adaptability. Our findings expand the diversity and habitat range of Lundqvistomyces, emphasising the ecological richness of fungi associated with mangrove-associated plants and the importance of continued exploration in understudied environments.
